Avoid the tyranny of the urgent. Overload with work also means overload of our mind. Too many stimuli stress and inhibit our brains. Any performance needs free space. You cannot protect yourself from interruptions. Intruders may be external : people knocking at your door, phone calls, incoming mails. They are also internal : ideas, reminders, needs. Vital is how you deal with them. If possible, just take a note and stay focused on what you are doing. Deal with interruptions after having accomplished your current action cycle. Another essential method to free your mind is to distinguish virtual and real actions ! Most people use a to-do list where they note tasks to be done. These are real actions. They activate your brains even before you start executing them. Moreover, a to-do list is never ending. It squats your space-time unduly. Take the habit to think in virtual actions in order to avoid overloading your space-time. These are ideas of actions without any length. They remain outside your space-time and do not bother you at all. Proactime offers you a virtual space to note them. Regularly you consult this virtual space and sort its content. Some ideas of actions will be rejected, others executed at once or at a specific date, others again will be delegated or integrated in meetings or projects. Former virtual actions, then, turn real and will not leave you any more until their accomplishments. They are your adopted children. Be cautious before engaging yourself. Urgent activities will be executed at the expense of other urgent or important actions! Space-time does not tolerate ubiquity. |
